Landed cost
What is in a landed cost.
A factory price is not what it costs to have goods on site. Landed cost is every line between the factory gate and your site. This page sets out the structure. It contains no prices, because they depend on the product, the order and the shipment.
The lines
- Goods
- The factory price on the quote, in the currency quoted.
- Inspection
- Factory audit, production monitoring and pre-shipment inspection.
- Sea freight
- Container or part-container from the Chinese port to the Australian port.
- Import duty
- Depends on the tariff classification of the product.
- GST
- Applied on the import.
- Customs and port charges
- Clearance through a broker, terminal and handling.
- Cartage to site
- Port to your site, including storage if the site is not ready.
- Our fee
- Quoted per project. See Engagement and fees.
How to compare against a local quote
Compare the total of all lines against the local quote for the same specification. A comparison that leaves out freight, duty, GST or inspection will overstate the difference.
Our Landed Cost Estimator lets you enter your own figure for each line and adds them up. It is arithmetic on your numbers, not a quote.
How long it takes
Production, sea freight and customs and delivery together are roughly 6 to 8 weeks from the end of the trip to delivery on site. Stages: production (2 to 4 wk), sea freight (3 wk), customs and delivery to site (1 wk).
Common questions
Why do you not publish prices?
Every project differs in volume, category mix and how much QA and logistics oversight it needs. We scope it per project.
Who is the importer of record?
We confirm this with you when we scope the order, because it depends on how the shipment is structured.
Have us check your numbers.
Send your bill of materials or your top categories. We review them against direct factory options.
